About CICA

Vision

We will be recognized in Latin America for our research and for the excellence of our analytical work in water quality, air quality and organic contaminants analysis.

Quality  Politic

The CICA has established and implemented a Quality Management System (QMS). The QMS is based on the requirements of the current international standard ISO / IEC 17025, which purpose is to provide high quality customer services are offered according to the costumer’s needs.

CICA has laboratories and a sampling unit, which tests are accredited under the current INTE-ISO / IEC 17025 that establishes the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

Wilson Beita-Sandi
Researcher
Dr. Beita-Sandí is a researcher in the Research Center of Environmental Pollution (CICA) and a professor in the Department of Agronomy in the College of Agriculture and Food at the University of Costa Rica. He is a registered chemist in Costa Rica and a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Dr. Beita-Sandí received his Bachelor of Science and Licenciatura degrees in Chemistry from the University of Costa Rica. He earned his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Environmental Engineering and Sciences at Clemson University, South Carolina, USA. While working towards his Ph.D. he received the 2014 South Carolina Environmental Scholars Award and the 2017 L.G. Rich Water Environment Association Award. The continued increase in the world population combined with a low availability of pristine water sources cause stress on water supplies; pollution and scarcity of water are becoming commonplace. Unfortunately, drinking water utilities are increasing their reliance on water sources affected by wastewater effluents that are rich in disinfection by-products (DBPs) precursors. Dr. Beita-Sandí research interests are in the formation of DBPs, the control of DBPs precursors using fundamental physicochemical processes, and the environmental fate and the impact of constituents of emerging concern.
